Arans - also known as worsted weight and 10ply

Aran yarn today does not simply refer to yarns from Aran Scotland or even to cable jerseys
Aran, like the American worsted and Australian 10ply, generally refers to yarns between Double knit and Chunky.

Some people like to use Aran weight as this imbetween size, others like it as a dense doubleknit, others like it as a looser chunky. So its pretty flexible to your needs.

Click Aran from Sirdar
If you have been methodical and worked your way up from the fine yarns to doubleknit and then onto here, you will already be familiar with Click as a DK

if on the otherhand you are backwards then you too will be familiar with Click as a chunky.
The very fact that this very same yarn comes in many different weights should be proof of its value both to knitters and to Sirdar.

Click is machine washable, and is a wool and acrylic blend. The patterns are very up to date to modern trends.

This is a very recent addition to Sirdar as of Autumn 2008 and as of yet only come in around 10 colours.

Soft Shetland from Lang Switzerland
100%wool
This is a really yarn.

People sometimes ask me why I go to some of the companies on mainland Europe, when equally good yarn can be obtained in this country.
There are many reasons such as
1 - higher quality yarns are cheaper on the continent
2 - most British yarns are made on the continent anyway
3 - its not Rowan or Debbie Bliss (I leave that to the department stores) and look for something diferent
4 - and the main reason, is that these companies have to cater for tastes from Spain to Estonia and as such offer a broader selection of colours.

Not only is Soft Shetland just dreamy to knit with but it felts wonderfully too.
Just drench with water and bung in the tumble drier. Thats how the flowers above the picture here were made. By me so its gotta be simple.

50g, 130m, £3.25

Special Aran from Stylecraft

Each ball is a super 400g which means around 3 for a bloke, 2 for a woman, 1 for a child!

We usually have around 20 colours in.

Whilst Aran is a popular weight of yarn it isn't to be honest the most well catered for in patterns.
Personal note here but I find pattern suppliers generally very stupid about this.
However, try www.knittingpatterncentral.com thousands of free patterns and lots in aran weight as this weight of yarn is actually the Americans favourite.

one big 400g ball has 816m of yarn and costs a mere £6.99
Thats right folks a mere £6.99, come on down to Heaths for a test drive today ----- sorry, thought I was in a car lot for a second.
